SOLUTIONS for those RAINY DAY BLUES

Cairncroft has a supply of jigsaws, board and card games, a library of novels, and some toys and books for younger children (including Duplo and First Duplo). There is a TV/Video combination, and a supply of videos to suit most normal adults and children (no guarantees..!). The village shop at Rosehall also has videos for hire.

Alternatively, if you want to get out, here are some suggestions:

Visit the Waterfalls
River Shin is dam controlled, but the other local rivers and burns will be worth a visit once the rains have brought the spate on. Gentle rivers and babbling brooks become violent thunderous torrents. The River Cassley Falls, and the gorge just above and below are particularly impressive. The Falls are about a mile upstream from the road bridge at Rosehall. The Upper Cassley Falls are more remote (another five miles upstream), but well worth the trip.

The Oykel Falls are also good - half a mile upstream from the Oykel Bridge Hotel.

The smell of a pine forest during (or just after) rain is wonderful, and the trees provide some shelter from the elements. Check out the local options on the walks page.
